On July 9, 2009, Semantic Seed and SSV Network co-hosted an event with featured speakers Naeem Zafar (Concordia Ventures) and Jay Elliot (RocketStream).  Each presented pivotal insight and compelling examples, useful for entrepreneurs and their colleagues.  Naeem’s talk was entitled 7-Steps to a Successful Startup and Jay’s talk drew much from his varied experience.  SSVN would like also to acknowledge Adobe for providing a great room for the event and Blue Monitor for recording and posting videos of the talks.

Event organized by Arlene Marom, Partner of SSVNetwork – Tel Aviv

innovation-lightJust wanted to let everyone know that we had our first SSVN event in Tel Aviv on January 19. It was held at the Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute (IEICI), was sponsored by Sun Microsystems , and attended by around 70 people.

The attendees enjoyed very lively networking, as well as two interesting speakers. Geva Kra-Oz spoke about the need for creating a story for your startup. Jordan Chanofsky, the well-known PR expert from the US and head of Fusion PR, happened to be in Israel at the time, and graced our meeting with a wonderful presentation about PR campaigns in the US.

Presentations were also made by the evening’s sponsors:  Maiki Yoeli – Deputy Director General at the IEICI and head of the Technology Business Development Divisions – spoke about what the Export Institute can offer to startups. (PPT Presentation) Jill Anolik – responsible for Sun’s OEM Software and Technology Sales in Israel, Eastern Europe, Turkey and Greece – introduced the benefits of Sun’s startup program. (PPT Presentation)

In addition, we screened welcomes from SSVN branches in Silicon Valley (Tom Buckholtz) and Finland (Tapani Huikuri). (SSVN Videos, coming soon) Bios of Presenters and the SSVN Team can be found here.

Unfortunately, due to a badly-timed flu, I lost my voice and couldn’t make my own presentation at the event!  I was saved by the very gracious Efrat Fenigson, Business Development Manager for New Media at IEICI, who spoke on my behalf.

All the participants thanked us for a wonderful evening and plan to attend our future meetups. Many expressed interest in the SSVN concept and hoped to be able to utilize our global network to assist their businesses. The Export Institute, tasked with helping Israeli companies succeed in the international arena, invited us to use their facilities on a regular basis.

I’d like to thank David Jaffee, owner of Team Remote, for kindly filming our event, which will enable all SSVN branches to enjoy the presentations.  (Team Remote)

All the best,

Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan - one of the most famous and spectacular Towers in China

On December 9, 2008, SSV Network colleague Patrick Berbon and I attended a 2008 China-US IT Forum event in Silicon Valley for information-technology corporate leaders and government officials from Wuhan, China.

As a panelist, I contributed thoughts about information-technology marketplace opportunities and challenges for enterprises and governments.

One attendee from Silicon Valley introduced himself to me and mentioned he is a member of one of the SSVN Meetup-hosted communities.  Patrick and I met people who may add to the overall SSV Network community.

I appreciate event-organizer Henry Chen’s making this possible.

An IBM report reveals five innovations that have the potential to change the way people work, live, and play over the next five years.

The report is based on market and societal trends expected to transform our lives, as well as emerging technologies from IBM’s Labs around the world that can make these innovations possible.

In the next five years, technology innovations will change our lives in the following area:

  • Energy saving solar technology will be built into asphalt, paint and windows
  • Health – you will have a crystal ball for your health
  • Talking Web – you will talk to the Web . . . and the Web will talk back
  • Personal Shopping Assistants – you will have your own digital shopping assistants
  • Memory – forgetting will become a distant memory
